About
While working for eFuse I had the opportunity to teach Unreal Engine to a group of educators at UNCG. Among those attendees were Steve and Cathy Isaacs, who were great to work with and meet. I put together a lesson in advance and led it live at the event.
The lesson used a virtual studio project as a starting point, walking the instructors through making a prebuilt studio their own by changing materials, textures, and level layouts. For those who felt ready, I also challenged them to start from an empty level and build out their own studio from scratch.
It was really rewarding watching the gears turn for these instructors as they started to see the breadth of what Unreal Engine can do. Steve had given a lesson the day before on using Unreal for game development, but getting to show that side-by-side with virtual production and broadcast use cases helped open a lot of minds to how far the engine has come.
Getting to stand in front of a room full of educators inside an amazing esports arena at a college and give a live demo was a unique experience. The session produced a lot of successful studios and left plenty of people with a new perspective on using Unreal Engine in education.
